Owing to growing concern over the dwindling natural supply of water across the region, WA Water Authority adopted a security through diversity strategy when considering water assets and thus the desalination plant, which was the first of its kind in Australia was built and completed in 2006. It won world desalination plant of the year in 2007.
C&S Brand Australian Filter Coal was utilised as the pre-filtration technology instead of membranes as it was the more proven method, providing a longer product operational life as well as lower maintenance and up-front costs. The product was delivered on time and wholly to specification.
