Projects

Sydney Desalination
Plant

In response to declining water levels, Sydney Water obtained approval for a Seawater Desalination Plant. Pilot testing favoured coarse dual-media filtration. We supplied C & S Brand Australian Filter Coal, on time and to exact specification.

Qurayyat Desalination
Plant

This plant is in operation to address water shortages in Muscat, Oman and surrounds. We supplied 2,210 cubic metres of C & S Brand Australian Filter Coal, delivered on time, to exact specifications.

Dungog WTP

This was the first contact filtration plant in Australia to use large effective size media, after pilot plant work by the Hunter Water Corporation. It was also the first to use C & S Brand Australian Filter Coal and remains an industry frontrunner with long-term results, durability and consistency.

Barangaroo Lendlease
Grand Casino

We supplied premium C&S Brand Australian Activated Carbon while transforming a former gas works site into a modern casino and hotel, effectively eliminating odours and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and adding to Sydney’s evolving skyline.

Mt Crosby
Eastbank

This refurbishment project included converting 20 mono-media sand filters to dual-media filters with C&S Brand Australian Filter Coal. It extended filter run times, reduced backwashing frequency and improved plant performance, surpassing client expectations.

FAQs

What are the primary uses of Coal Dust?

Coal Dust finds diverse applications across industries. Primarily, it is a crucial component in foundries for green sand mould production, contributing to the casting process by creating a smooth lustrous finish on iron castings. It’s also used to produce friction materials like brake linings, enhancing their performance and durability. Additionally, Coal Dust is employed in specific chemical processes and other industrial applications, such as producing carbon-based products and as a reducing agent in certain metallurgical processes, where its carbon content is essential.

What sets James Cumming & Sons' coal dust apart from competitors?

Unlike many suppliers who source from various locations, James Cumming & Sons focuses on premium Australian coal, ensuring a consistent and reliable source material. This allows us to maintain tighter control over the quality and characteristics of our coal dust. Furthermore, our extensive experience allows us to offer customised solutions, including specific particle size distributions and other tailored properties, that directly address unique customer needs. This level of customisation and control over the supply chain is what truly sets us apart.

What is the typical lead time for a coal dust order?

Lead times for coal dust orders vary depending on the quantity ordered and current production schedules. We strive to provide efficient and timely delivery to all our customers. We recommend contacting our team directly to discuss your specific requirements and receive an accurate lead time estimate. We can also discuss expedited options if needed. We typically keep at least 100MT in stock at all times.

What packaging options are available for coal dust?

James Cumming & Sons offers a range of flexible packaging options to suit your needs. We provide bulk delivery in pneumatic tankers, typically ranging from 8 to 40 metric tonnes per delivery. For smaller quantities, we offer convenient one-tonne or 500kg woven polypropylene bulk bags, we can also pack in 20kg small woven polypropylene sacks. Should you require a specific packaging solution, we can also accommodate custom packaging requests to meet your unique requirements.

Why is the calorific value of coal dust an important consideration?

The calorific value of coal dust is critical in many industrial applications, particularly those involving combustion. A higher calorific value indicates greater energy content, which translates to increased energy output and improved efficiency in processes like fuel combustion for industrial heating and power generation. At James Cumming & Sons, our coal dust typically exhibits a calorific value greater than 6,600 kcal per kg, ensuring that our customers benefit from maximum energy output and optimised operational efficiency.
